Assalamualaikum..

This was one of the quiz Sheikh Sultan gave us during Ramadhan. I think it is really beneficial to put it on the forum, since not many people know about and I kind of forgot some of it. So, I think maybe the Sheikh can write it here, bi idznillah.

Hints:

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's mercy and peace be upon him) said,
"Whoever treads a path, seeking (religious) knowledge therein, Allah makes easy for him a path to Paradise." (related by Muslim)

Assalam alei kum

We were at a function where we were advised that Eid Adha Qurban is only considered valid when a person fully participates while the qurban is taking place.  Otherwise the act is considered as a khairaat.  I am concerned as every year I have number of Qurbani done for various people (some living some others passed away).  Please advise the correct protocal (Eid Adha).

Asslaam alaikum

Shaykh Sultan said in response to the question:

It is allowed for a person to sacrifice an animal for himself/herself and also mention the name of people who are alive or have died.  Those dead people will share in the reward.

The Prophet sacrificed two animals, one for himself and his family and another animal on behalf of all those of the Ummah of Muhammad who did not sacrifice.  This includes those who were alive and those who died.  It also shows they did not have to be present there participating.

This is with regards to them getting the reward for it.  But if they are alive, they still ought to sacrifice one for themselves if they can afford it.
