السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
brothers and sisters,

My question is related to the evolution theory, I understand that there is no basis for the ape evolving into man in islam, however there are other things that happen in our world today that can be considered evolution, like for example survival of the fittest, if an animal lets say a moth developed a trait in coloration which has enhanced its camouflage rate, and another moth from the same species which has the old coloration gets eaten and falls into extinction, the new enhanced traits continue on, could we say that evolution is part of Allah the all-mighty's creation?

Another thing regarding the topic, is something that I have picked up from biology classes is the fact that many animals (mammals), and the human being have similar internal organs and features, this is because we were designed this way because it is best to suit the earths climatic and atmospheric conditions, similarly underwater Allah the all-mighty gave fish gills and fins and nearly all of them have these traits because it is best suited for their survival underwater, could this argue against the theory of evolution?

All praise is to Allah, and peace and blessings upon his messenger
Don't forget me and your brothers and sisters in your Du'a
Jazzakum Allah Khair'a

Your Brother,

Assalaamu alaikum brother Muhammad

Just reviving an old topic!

One thing you need to remember about evolution is:

Is it theory or fact?

Once you sort that out, it becomes clear that the Qur'an and Sunnah - and Islam in general - do not go against any scientific facts.  As Allah is the Creator and Sustainer of this World - the Creator of the laws and dimensions that govern us, the Creator of Physics and Chemistry and Biology - so when we consider this, and compare the words of Allah in the Qur'an with the scientific fact then we realise that the two go in harmony  Smiley

One of the signs of Allah is how He created each and everything - living or non-living - with a purpose to fulfil in this great universe.  We also notice how Allah has given certain creatures and plants the ability to adapt to their surroundings.  You might class this as a "minor evolution" which everyone would agree to.

However, when we think about the "major evolution" where apes turn into men, this is just a theory and not a fact.  There are some questions that you could ask yourself:
  • If there were intermediate stages between man and ape, where are they?  Shouldn't there be at least some of them, somewhere around the world?!
  • Why didn't the rest of the apes turn into humans?  What's stopping them?

The simple diversity and balance that Allah has created in this world is amazing - subhanAllah.  There are so many questions that evolution can not answer, yet Islam has a satisfactory answer for that.

For more info, I would encourage anyone to ask Shaikh Abu Ismaeel on the forum.
