Contact lens

Assalamualaikum,

I am not sure whether the act of applying contact lens will break the fast or not. Would like to have some clarification regarding this matter,please. Thank you..

Assalamu alaikum

Wearing contact lens does not affect the fast in anyway.

This is because the passage of the eye - so far as I'm aware - does not lead to the digestive tract.  So any liquid placed in the eyes does not go down the person's throat and stomach.  It is only the latter kind that breaks the fast.  As for putting liquid in ears, eyes etc does not break fast.  This is what the scholars have said in earlier days as well as the most recent opinions.  Some scholars earlier though thought some of these passages led to throat and said therefore it breaks the fast.  If indeed the eye drops were to lead into the throat and inside, then yes it would break the fast, or else it would not.

So, wearing contact lens does not harm the fast at all so long as nothing of liquid makes its way to the throat and stomach.
